Why are some organizations reluctant to hire recent graduates?

Certain job positions require workers with tangible experience. About 2/3 of employers reject candidates because they cannot clearly articulate their abilities. Although colleges and universities focus on helping individuals develop soft skills, employers remain firm on wanting employees with practical skills, knowledge, and experiences. One of the best ways to encourage practical skills and knowledge development is to offer students internships and cooperative educational experiences.

These programs are useful because they encourage students to develop the ability to transfer and apply theoretical knowledge to real-life situations. Furthermore, internships and cooperative opportunities are beneficial for both the organization and the student(s).  The reason is that the organization is training and developing a potential permanent future employee without increasing its current overhead costs. Simultaneously, the student gains the practical experience and knowledge they need to propel once they complete their studies. It is a win-win situation.
